The United Kingdom Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (UKBFF) is affiliated to the European Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBFF) and the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB), which is the largest Bodybuilding and Fitness federation in the world.
The UKBFF sanctions Qualifying events throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (see Events). UKBFF Members can qualify for the UK British Finals which is held in October each year.
At the UKBFF Qualifying events and the UK British Finals, the following categories are open to UKBFF members:
BODYBUILDING, FITNESS, BODYFITNESS, ATHLETIC FITNESS, BIKINI FITNESS
- Men Bodybuilding; Five weight classes - 70kg, 80kg, 90kg, 100kg and over 100kg
- Women Bodybuilding
- Junior Men up to 23 years of age
- Master Men over 40 years of age
- Master Men over 50 years of age
- Intermediate Men up to 80kg, up to 90kg and over 90kg
- Classic Bodybuilding Men
- Athletic Fitness Men
- Athletic Fitness Women
- Ladies Bodyfitness
- Ladies Fitness
- Ladies Bikini Fitness
The category Men's Classic Bodybuilding has a height to weight restriction. It has been very successful and is growing every year.
The winners of the men's weight classes in the UKBFF Finals in October each receive the UK Class Title of British Champion and compete against each other for the Overall title and the right to apply for a pro-card. Pro status will only be granted if the athlete is a UK citizen.
The UKBFF sends teams to the IFBB European Championships and the IFBB World Championships. All international amateur competitions are drug tested. The UKBFF Executive Committee has the final say which athletes will represent the UK. The athletes that are chosen will be drug tested.
There are European Men's, Women's, Junior's and Master's Championships and IFBB World Men's, Women's Junior's and Master's Championships. There are also IFBB World Men's Classic Bodybuilding Championships. In total seven IFBB Continental and World Championships.
If a competitor is representing the UKBFF at the European or World Championships, all expenses are paid for by the federation.
The route to a pro card for the ladies is through the European and World Championships. The top 3 of the women's categories in UK Finals have the right to compete and represent the UKBFF in these international events. If they place in the top 3 in the World Championships or are the Class winner in the European Championships, they will have the possibility to apply for a pro card. Men's classes will have this opportunity as well.
A competitor, who wins their class at the Arnold Amateur Classic, can apply to the UKBFF Executive Committee to be considered for Pro-status.
